STRATFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Canada (we’re national winners of the 2006 Communities in Bloom competition) Stratford’s got what it takes – whether you want to catch some action, or simply catch your breath. Nestled in the picturesque heartland of Perth County in rural southwestern Ontario, we’ve got oodles of culture (including the largest repertory theatre in North America), scads of heritage buildings, breath-stopping shopping, first-rate restaurants not to mention double-decker bus tours, garden tours, concerts, quilts and cabarets. All wrapped up in an enchanting little package.

Located in prime farming country, two hours from Toronto, a few more Detroit and Niagara is the the small city of Stratford. Long known as a meca for classical theatre, Stratford has now become a hotbed for the arts in Canada. It is a living and functioning arts centre for resident and visitor alike. Certainly a wonderful place to stay a couple of days or a week.

From the charm of the annual Parade of Swans, through mating, nesting, hatching and on, Stratford's honourary ambassadors set the pace for the city. Each spring, the annual swan parade sees the wintering swans, and other exotic water fowl, waddling and toddling down to the water - Scottish pipe band and all. With the great abundance of food artisans in Perth County, it is only natural for Stratford to have some of Canada's best chefs. We are home to the Stratford Chefs School and some of the finest restaurants in Canada. For all the gourmets and gourmands, let your senses experience our chefs' creativity and dishes that regularly win kudos from food writers.

The Original Storefront
The building was built by the Whyte family in 1900 and served as the neighbourhood grocery store. Many Stratford residents have fond childhood memories of the old store. In 1998 it was rescued and converted into The Queen and Albert B&B. The storefront and awning are original to the building.
